Flewwelling appointed RDC Board of Governors chair

Former Red Deer mayor Morris Flewwelling has been appointed chair of Red Deer College’s Board of Governors.

Flewwelling, 75, was appointed to a three-year term.

He was the city’s mayor for nine years and served on council for 21 years before retiring from municipal politics in 2013.

Born in Mirror, Flewwelling has been a longtime RDC supporter. He played a key role in developing the Arts Centre and served as chair of the Arts Centre Planning and Building Committee for eight years. He was also a member of RDC’s Permanent Art Collection’s Selection Committee from 1978-80.

Flewwelling, a recipient of the Order of Canada, received an honorary degree from RDC in 2014 when the college celebrated its 50th anniversary.
