A Red Deer resident was concerned after spotting white foam in Waskasoo Creek.

Tim Van Horn was walking on the path next to the water around 11:30 a.m. Thursday morning, just off the end of 44 Street in the Parkvale neighbourhood, when he noticed the foam.

“When I first got there it was like a kid’s bathtub full of bath bubbles,” he said.

Van Horn, who has lived in the area for 15 years and walks by that area twice a day, reported the sight to the city. He said he believes humans are responsible for the foam.

“People need to realize the solvents and soaps they’re using do go downstream and they do have consequences in the ecosystem,” he said.

Van Horn said a city employee told him the foam was caused by algae.

A representative from the city’s environmental services department was not immediately available for comment.
