Carlos Casado takes another box of peanut butter from Santa as firemedics form a bucket brigade to load a truck outside the Parkland Mall Safeway Thursday. This is the sixth annual donation of groceries made by the Red Deer Firefighters Children’s Charity to the Red Deer Food Bank. This year’s items consist of $1,250 worth of peanut butter and another $1,250 in frozen chickens. Money for the donation came from various fundraisers the charity undertakes, most notably the collection of Christmas trees early in the new year. Other non-profit groups the charity supports include the Red Deer Hospice Society, Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen, Circus Camp and the Women’s Outreach Centre.
