A former Kneehill County employee has been sentenced to a year in jail in connection with the theft of more than $100,000 from the county.
Niall Sharpe, 52, of Red Deer previously pleaded guilty to fraud over $5,000. He was sentenced in Drumheller provincial court on Thursday.
Charges of theft over $5,000 and forgery were withdrawn.
Sharpe was charged by RCMP after a two-month investigation. He was accused of obtaining money, goods and services by way of forgery, fraud and theft.
He was arrested at his Red Deer home in September 2013.
Sharpe worked for the county in emergency services for six years before resigning in June 2013.
