Although legendary Red Deer Rebels play-by-play announcer Cam Moon has moved on to the NHL, he’s still making an impact at home.

Moon, who is in his second season calling games for the Edmonton Oilers, teamed up with Cilantro and Chive Red Deer to create his own burger that would raise money for charity.

Two dollars from every “Rebel Moon” burger that was sold in September went to Special Olympics Alberta. His burger ended up raising over $1,482.

Moon, who worked with the Rebels for more than 20 seasons, said he became close with Rebels dressing room attendant Mikel McIver and that’s why he chose the Special Olympics Alberta as the charity that would receive funds from his burger.

McIver, who has Down Syndrome, has competed in Special Olympics swimming and won countless medals in the pool.

“I worked with Mikel, he became a good friend. I was able to see the positive impact Special Olympics made on his life. That’s the type of impact I’d like to support,” Moon said.
