Former Red Deer pastor to be sentenced in December

Stan Schalk will appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on Monday, Dec. 19, to hear Judge Darrell Riemer’s judgment.

A sentencing date has been set for a Red Deer affordable housing developer who was found guilty of sexually assaulting one of his workers.

Stan Schalk will appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on Monday, Dec. 19, to hear Judge Darrell Riemer’s judgment.

Riemer determined on Sept. 21 that Schalk, 57, was guilty of one count of sexual assault. Court heard Schalk had put his hands on the breast of a 43-year-old employee while on a picnic on June 2015.

Schalk is co-owner of Potter’s Hands Developments that operates River Valley Apartments, a townhouse development in Riverside Meadows, apartments above Potter’s Hands soup kitchen, and The Buffalo apartments.

He is also a volunteer pastor with Potter’s Hands Ministry.

The name of the woman is being withheld under a publication ban that protects the identities of sexual assault victims.

Defence lawyer Lorne Goddard had previously asked that a pre-sentence report be prepared, which typically take six to eight weeks to complete. Schalk was not in court on Thursday.
