A former Red Deer RCMP officer is facing three assault charges following an incident that occurred three years ago in the city.

A former Red Deer RCMP officer is facing three assault charges following an incident that occurred three years ago in the city.

Const. Eric Pomerleau was charged after a public complaint was submitted to the RCMP about an on-duty incident on Aug. 19, 2012, involving a civilian in police custody in Red Deer.

A public complaint was submitted to the RCMP last November and an investigation ensued.

Pomerleau is charged with assault with a weapon (OC spray, also known as pepper spray), assault causing bodily harm and common assault. He was working in Red Deer at the time.

He will make his first appearance in Red Deer provincial court on July 14.

Pomerleau is currently on administrative duties at another Alberta detachment.
