Four injured in head-on crash near Bowden (video)

Four people were injured, including one woman seriously, in a head-on collision near Bowden late Monday morning.

STARS air ambulance takes off after picking up the injured female driver of a sport utility vehicle that collided head on with a pickup truck at the Sec. Hwys 587 and 791 intersection east of Bowden Monday morning.


Four people were injured, including one woman seriously, in a head-on collision near Bowden late Monday morning.

Emergency crews responded to a collision sometime after 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Secondary Hwys 791 and 587, about 14.5 km east of Bowden. A sport utility vehicle had collided with a pickup truck.

STARS air ambulance was notified at 11:45 a.m. and a half hour later was on scene to pick up a 48-year-old woman. She had been driving the Suburban SUV.

Both she and a passenger had to be extricated.

STARS spokesman Cam Heke said the woman was airlifted in stable condition to Calgary’s Foothills Medical Centre.

Ambulances from Red Deer and Innisfail were helping treat the injured, along with fire departments from Carstairs and Bowden, Heke said.

Heke said at least six people were treated at the scene.

Three people were taken to local hospitals.

RCMP were unavailable for further comment Monday afternoon.
