Four people charged after ‘serious assault,’ says Ponoka RCMP

Four people are facing charges after a “serious assault” earlier this week, says Ponoka RCMP.

On Wednesday, police were called to a reported assault on 47 Street in Ponoka. RCMP said upon arrival officers spoke with a 41-year-old victim, who had “significant trauma” to her face and body.

As a result of the initial investigation, RCMP arrested four people, all of whom were known to the victim.

A 26-year-old woman, a 29-year-old woman and 22-year-old man from Ponoka, and a 19-year-old man from Maskwacis, are all charged with aggravated assault. The 22-year-old man is also charged with failing to comply with a release order.

They have been released with conditions and are scheduled to appear at the Provincial Court in Ponoka on Feb. 11.

“In spite of this vicious assault, persons crimes are down 15 per cent in Ponoka over the last year,” said Staff Sgt. Christopher Smiley of the Ponoka RCMP.

“In instances where individuals are released with conditions pending their court appearance, our members will continue to robustly monitor the accused to promote compliance with those conditions and to reduce crime.”
