Local bus schedules can be called up on smartphones with the new Red Deer Transit bus app.

The free MyBus transit app is now available for download.

MyBus, which gives users access to real-time schedules and transit information from mobile devices, was launched last year as a mobile-friendly website.

“Today, we are excited to make it available as an app for users,” said transit manager George Penny on Thursday.

“Functioning the same as the mobile website, the app will enable users to find their stop, track buses, plan their route and receive service updates.”

MyBus shows the entire length of a bus route, overlaid onto a map, and shows where each bus is along its route in real-time with GPS tracking.

The program displays the latest bus routes and schedules, as well as any service disruptions that may affect travel. Users can also find the stops closest to them, and plan their travel.

Penny said, “By simply entering their location and destination, the program will provide step-by step navigation instructions, making our transit system easy for anyone to navigate.”

The app is now available for free download for both Apple and Android operating systems. Users can also continue to use the mobile website, available at mybus.reddeer.ca.
