Anyone who faces a barrier to employment can take a free, government-funded employment training program through Cosmos in Red Deer.

“We are hoping to be able to get the word out into our community” about a training program that’s open to any individuals who face barriers to employment, said Ana Saskowski, public relations and marketing manager for Cosmos Group of Companies.

“This program is meant to alleviate individual’s stress or anxiety regarding unemployment and provide them with training, safety tickets, and ongoing support,” Saskowski added.

The self-identified barriers are not exclusive to developmental disabilities. They can include things such as anxiety, ADHD, and even English as a second language challenges that New Canadians often face.

The Cosmos Employment Connections (CEC) offers career and life skills training, safety training, and job shadowing opportunities. The program aims to help individuals affected by the pandemic, or who may face other employment barriers.

The six-week program, funded by the Government of Alberta, offers life skills training, computer skills training, safety training, and several job shadowing opportunities. The CEC program will run until November, with the next upcoming session starting July 19.
