A Red Deer man will return to work once the shock wears off from winning $1 million.

Randy Currier matched three numbers on a LOTTO MAX ticket so he received a LOTTO MAX Free Play at Burnt Lake General Store on Hwy 11 west of Hwy 2.

On the evening of April 15, that Free Play resulted in the big payout.

A few days later, Currier took his ticket to a store and checked it.

“I must have checked it 15 times,” he said. “I thought, ‘You’ve gotta be kidding me!’ I saw a whole bunch of zeros but I just couldn’t fathom the number I was seeing! I was so shocked.”

His ticket exactly matched one of the MAXMILLIONS numbers drawn to win $1 million.

Currier said it’s always been his dream to win the lottery and be free. He doesn’t have to worry anymore.

Currier hasn’t thought of what he’d like to do with his windfall.

“I don’t need a bunch of stuff. But this is nice. I’m going to make this last so I’m set for the rest of my life.”
