Fundraiser organized for avalanche victim’s family

Friends have organized a macaroni and cheese fundraiser for a Sylvan Lake area woman who lost her husband in an avalanche last month.

Friends have organized a macaroni and cheese fundraiser for a Sylvan Lake area woman who lost her husband in an avalanche last month.

Steve Hall, 33, was one of three men from Sylvan Lake who were snowmobiling in the Corbin pipeline in British Columbia (between Crowsnest Pass and Sparwood) when an avalanche hit. Hall died on the mountain while the others escaped.

Hall left behind wife, Lara, and four children ages one, three, five and seven. They live in Birchcliff, on the eastern shore of Sylvan Lake.

“Lara has been a stay-at-home mom while Steve was working,” said family friend Keri Pratt.

“So we would like to provide an opportunity for her to stay at home if she chooses to do so, so that money won’t be an issue for her.”

The lunch will be served at H.J. Cody High School Gym in Sylvan Lake on April 28. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and lunch is served at noon. A silent auction will run before, during and after the lunch.

Organizers are looking for silent and live auction items. Contact Pratt at 403-887-3884 for more information.

Tickets are available through Jen Bahler at 403-505-5889, at Steffie Woima Elementary School in Sylvan Lake every Friday until the event or online at http://hallfundraiser.ticketbud.com/macaroni-and-cheese. Tickets are $20.
