United Way Central Alberta gave a big shout-out on Thursday to the generosity of many Red Deerians this year.

Workers at the INEOS Canada plant at Joffre supported United Way agencies and the people they serve with a $50,655 donation.

Employees of NOVA Chemicals gave $40,000 from its #GivingTuesday campaign — part of a $200,000 donation to support local agencies addressing mental health needs. Safe Harbour Society was one of the six partner agencies supported by this donation.

Staff and faculty at Red Deer Polytechnic collectively donated $14,260 for United Way agencies — as well as a record-breaking 2,683 pounds of non-perishable food items for the Students’ Association Food Bank.

Mountains of warm winter clothing, food items, and basic needs were donated by BMO Financial Group employees from the Central Alberta region. To collect these items, employees held “stuff the manager’s car” events.

Also recognized by the local United Way were Farm Credit Canada employees for volunteering at the Red Deer Food Bank, City of Red Deer employees for volunteering at The Mustard Seed, and JET/Government of Alberta employees for donating volunteer hours to Turning Point Society

“Heartfelt thanks” were extended to all Central Albertans who made a difference by giving items, money, or their time to help neighbours get their basic needs met. “Thank you… our hearts are full,” stated the release.

Anyone who still wants to donate can go online to caunitedway.ca/donate/. To receive a tax receipt for 2023, you must donate before 11:59 p.m. Dec. 31.

Donations sent via Canada Post must be postmarked by Dec. 31. Donations dropped off at the United Way office mail slot, must be received prior to the office opening on Jan. 2

Anyone having difficulty donating online, or who would like to have their donation picked up before Dec. 31, can call 403-347-0513.
