There’s still a chance for Red Deer-area residents to party in the Barbie world at Thursday’s concert with the band Aqua.

The Danish-Norwegian Euro-pop band behind the bubblegum 1997 hit Barbie Girl is performing on Thursday night at the Parkland Pavilion at Westerner Park.

More recently, Aqua collaborated with Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice on the soundtrack of the film Barbie. Their resulting Barbie World hip-hop track, with the line “I’m a doll, but still like to party,” debuted at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Aqua’s second single to enter the Top 10.

The European and is continuing to tour on the heels of this success, with vocalists Rene Dif and Lene Nystrom, and keyboardist Soren Rasted.

Aqua has generally been active since forming in 1995, despite two brief break-ups. The band rose to fame in 1997 with the album Aquarium, which produced the Barbie Girl, Doctor Jones and other bubbly tunes that got a lot of radio play and won international and Danish music awards.

The 8 p.m. Red Deer show is with Bran Van 3000, who has the hits Drinking in L.A. and Astounded. Tickets are still available through Ticketsalberta.com.
