Grandmother charged with abducting two-year-child in southern Alberta

RCMP say the grandmother of a two-year-old girl who was taken from her home in southern Alberta has been charged with abduction.

REDCLIFF, Alta. — RCMP say the grandmother of a two-year-old girl who was taken from her home in southern Alberta has been charged with abduction.

Johan Dejong, 47, of Fort Macleod, Alta., is also charged with breaking into a home.

She remains in custody and is to make her first court appearance on Thursday.

Venus Dejong was taken from her home in Redcliff on Sunday morning.

She was dropped off by her grandmother at the RCMP detachment in Jasper, Alta., on Monday.

The girl’s mother, 25-year-old Lola Dejong, made her first court appearance Monday on charges of break and enter and abduction in contravention of a custody order.
