Volunteers are needed as more litter becomes visible when snow melts.

Green Deer’s spring cleanup campaign, which encourages Red Deerians to clean litter around the city, is underway and will run until May 31.

To register a litter cleanup, visit www.waskasoopark.ca/kerry-wood-nature-centre/green-deer. Once registered, participants can pick up free supplies at Kerry Wood Nature Centre, Recreation Centre, Collicutt Centre or G.H. Dawe Community Centre.

All registrants are automatically entered to win prizes donated by Canadian Tire Red Deer South and Save-On-Foods.

The Mayor and Council Cleanup event is scheduled to take place on May 5 from 3:30-5 p.m. at Gary W. Harris Celebration Plaza. During this event, council will pick up litter in downtown Red Deer to show their support for Green Deer and to encourage citizens to get involved.

Two other Green Deer events are scheduled: Red Deer River Cleanup on June 4 and the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup on Sept. 24.
