SWAN HILLS, Alta. — RCMP say a man has been injured in a suspected grizzly bear mauling in northern Alberta.

Police say they responded to a call from the Swan Hills Healthcare Centre about 220 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.

RCMP Sgt. Shawn French says a man arrived at the hospital Friday afternoon for treatment of mostly superficial injuries such as bites and scratches.

He adds that Alberta Fish & Wildlife officers were called to deal with the bear.

It’s not clear how the man got to the health centre, but French says it’s possible he drove himself.

Officials with Alberta Health Services said they hadn’t transported anyone who had been involved in an animal attack.

No one from Alberta Fish & Wildlife was immediately available for comment late Friday
