More charges have been laid against a Red Deer man accused of groping a woman while inside a Red Deer supermarket.

Red Deer City RCMP allege that the initial incident, reported on July 7, involved a confrontation inside the Port O’ Call Safeway in downtown Red Deer.

Red Deer City RCMP members arrested a man after store staff and two members of the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team assisted a woman who had confronted a man inside the store at about 10 p.m. She said he had touched her in a sexual manner.

RCMP say in an update released on Tuesday that the man bolted from the store and was apprehended by store staff and ALERT members, who held him until police arrived.

Investigators have now linked four more incidents to the suspect and laid additional charges against him. Police allege that, from July 1 to 10, a man approached individual women while they were in a variety of public places, and grabbed or touched them in a sexual manner.

Blaise Kambu-Ndeng, 23, is now charged with five counts of sexual assault and a single count of possession of stolen property worth more than $5,000.

Kambu-Ndeng remains in custody pending an appearance in Red Deer provincial court on Thursday.
