A Central Alberta honey company is planning a series of artisan markets.

Gull Lake Honey Company received Lacombe County municipal planning commission approval on Thursday for a spring garage sale and craft market, and artisan and craft markets at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Dates for the events have yet to be announced.

Gull Lake Honey Company is owned by Lorne and Alida Prins and is located on east side of Gull Lake near McLaurin Beach and New Saratoga. The honey producers operate a year-round artisan gift shop offering products such as beeswax candles. They also have a petting zoo and run tours.

Lacombe County senior planner Cajun Paradis said the markets will be held in the existing honey house. They have been approved to have up to 600 people at the markets.

Paradis said other seasonal craft markets have been held on the property since 2020 and there have been no issues.
