Police investigated reports of gunshot at a Red Deer apartment building on Friday morning and took one man and two women into custody.

Const. Chris Kosack, media liaison officer for Red Deer City RCMP, said police received reports of a shot fired from within the Alpine Manor apartment building at 55th Street and 47th Avenue.

Responding officers have determined that a single shot was fired into the ceiling of a third-floor suite in the four-storey north-facing apartment building.

There were no injuries as a result of the shot, but the male suspect was injured after allegedly resisting arrest, Kosack said.

Alcohol was a factor, said Kosack.

A woman who identified herself as the man’s mother said the gun, a gift from his father, went off accidentally while he was handling it.

Dressed only in a housecoat, the woman said she lives in the suite immediately below her son’s apartment.

Further details will be provided later Friday, said Kosack.
