A preliminary hearing began on Monday for a man accused of first-degree murder in an alleged gang killing in Red Deer’s Inglewood subdivision in 2009.

The hearing in Red Deer provincial court for Christopher Martin Fleig, 26, of Red Deer is expected to last four days. Fleig is also charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Brandon Neil Prevey, 29, was gunned down in the driver’s seat of his vehicle on April 5, 2009. He was parked when another vehicle pulled up alongside and someone fired shots, hitting Prevey several times. A woman sitting next to Prevey was not hit.

In the last two months, charges have been stayed against three other men charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the killing.
