A preliminary hearing is being scheduled for a Cochrane woman accused of stealing more than $1 million from a Red Deer oilfield company.
Shelley Davidson, 37, was charged by Blackfalds RCMP investigating complaints that a bookkeeper had defrauded the company of about $1.2 million over a period of five years, starting in the fall of 2006.
Represented by Calgary defence counsel John Davison, Davidson asked in Red Deer provincial court on Monday for trial by judge alone in the Court of Queen’s Bench, with a preliminary hearing to be held beforehand.
Preliminary hearings may be requested to test the strength of the Crown’s case on some or all of the evidence against an accused.
