CALGARY — A hole measuring about six metres by four metres has appeared on the side of a downtown Calgary office building that’s been shedding bricks from its facade since last week.
The gaping hole showed up Sunday evening when several large chunks of construction material let go from the Genco building.
There have been no reports of injuries, but the debris heavily damaged some vehicles that had to be left in a parking lot when the problem began.
Fire department battalion chief Ernie Molineaux (MAH’-lih-noh) expects the bricks will continue to tumble because of expansion and contraction caused by daytime heating and overnight cooling.
Molineaux says the building’s owners and engineers will have to figure out how to solve the problem.
