Although the usual activities won’t be taking place this Canada Day, central Albertans can still partake in virtual festivities.
The Red Deer Cultural Heritage Society, the organization that typically puts on a full day of events at Bower Ponds in Red Deer, will host an online event on the society’s Facebook page, highlighting local artists and other groups.
There are also plans for fireworks at 11 p.m. at Westerner Park, although revellers are asked to watch them from home.
Lacombe’s Gord Bamford will be on stage Wednesday at Westerner Park as part of his five-show Drive In for Mental Health concert series. Those attending will watch him perform live from their vehicles. For tickets, go online at gordbamford.com.

City of Lacombe residents are invited to decorate their homes and yards in the spirit of Canada Day and submit a photo of themselves with their family to events.lacombetourism@gmail.com for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate.
The Lacombe Tourism website states residents can enjoy a driveway dinner, front yard barbecue or takeout from their favourite eatery and enjoy local entertainers as they drive by between 5 and 7 p.m Wednesday. There is also a collective singing of O Canada at 7 p.m.
Town of Sylvan Lake residents can dress up their front windows in the spirit of the holiday for a chance to win $100 gift cards to a local business.

The Town of Blackfalds is hosting a Canada Day fireworks show at 11 p.m., staged on the land immediately east of the RCMP detachment. Participants are invited to view the display from the campground area at All Star Park or anywhere else with a clear view.
Penhold residents will be able to watch Shrek on the big screen, drive-in style. Tickets for the 9 p.m. event are available on eventbrite.ca.
