The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating after an RCMP chase resulted in a car crash Wednesday afternoon.

Blackfalds RCMP responded to reports of gun shots being fired north of the town at 12:35 p.m. A description of the suspect vehicle was provided and it was spotted in Red Deer.

A pursuit was initiated by Red Deer RCMP, but it was quickly terminated in the interest of public safety.

The same vehicle was spotted by officers in an unmarked RCMP vehicle on Highway 815 at 1:45 p.m.

Shortly after police activated their lights and siren, the suspect vehicle was struck by a truck travelling eastbound on Highway 11.

The suspects were injured in the collision, but the occupants of the truck were not.

A STARS air ambulance could be seen leaving the scene near Freedom Road around 3 p.m.

RCMP had the highway blocked off a considerable distance from the collision and were diverting traffic to side roads.

ASIRT, which investigates incidents resulting in serious injury or death to any person, as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct, is looking into the incident.
