The RCMP have been attending a number of collisions in the Blackfalds and Red Deer area on Highway 2.

Some vehicles have been involved in collisions and are in the ditch.

Roads are described as icy, slushy and there is limited visibility.

The RCMP wants to remind drivers to slow down and drive for road conditions. Allow stopping time between yourself and the vehicle in front of you.

Travel is not recommended in this area if it can be avoided.

Traffic was backed up in the southbound lanes of Highway 2 near Highway 11 earlier because of a jacknifed semi.

There are also reports that the highway is glazed and very slippery to the north, around the Lacombe area.

Highway 11, east of Rocky Mountain House, near Range Road 55 is also closed because of a collision.
