A man who is HIV positive and faces 11 counts of aggravated sexual assault, reserved his plea on Wednesday in Red Deer provincial court.

Paul Thompson, 32, of Calgary returns to court on Aug. 19 to enter a plea on the sexual assault charges and a single count of theft of a bank card.

The accused is alleged to have had unprotected sex with a woman who says she was not informed of his medical condition, Calgary police said earlier.

Aggravated sexual assault includes endangerment of life and HIV exposure may endanger life.

Thompson, who remains in custody, faces a life sentence if convicted, according to the Criminal Code.
