Hobbema escapee remains at large

An inmate who escaped from Hobbema’s Pe Sakastew Centre on Friday remains on the lam.

An inmate who escaped from Hobbema’s Pe Sakastew Centre on Friday remains on the lam.

Nicholas Franklin Steinhauer, 22, was reported missing about 3:30 p.m. Steinhauer was serving a two-year, three-month sentence for break and enters.

Correctional Service of Canada is still investigating how the inmate managed to escape from the minimum-security facility, which is surrounded by a two-metre fence, topped with barbwire, said acting assistant warden of management services Fred Jewett on Monday. The facility holds about 60 inmates.

Steinhauer is not considered dangerous.

He is described as five-foot-nine inches (1.75 metres) tall, weighing 210 pounds (95 kg). He has a medium complexion with brown eyes and black hair.
