Hobbema teen found dead on Christmas Eve

A teenager is believed to be Hobbema’s second homicide of 2010 after he was found dead on the street Christmas Eve.

Members of the Maskwacis detachment, along with an RCMP K-9 unit, responded to a complaint of shots being fired in a residential area at about 6:15 p.m. on Friday.

An unresponsive male was found. Emergency Medical Services staff attended and pronounced the male dead.

No arrests to date have been made. All parties involved are known to police.

A medical examiner was to conduct an autopsy on Tuesday to confirm the nature and cause of death. This is the second suspected homicide of the year for Hobbema, with the first one occurring two weeks ago. However, the incidents are not believed to be related.

Police say the name of the victim will not be released until the conclusion of the autopsy.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit, Wetaskiwin/Hobbema General Investigation Section, Forensic Identification Section and the Hobbema detachment are continuing to investigate.
