Hockey Canada to make major announcement regarding Red Deer on Thursday in Edmonton

Members of the Red Deer Rebels and Red Deer Mayor Tara Veer are on the guest list for a major announcement from Hockey Canada.

The announcement will take place in Edmonton and is about a major international event.

Tom Renney, CEO of Hockey Canada, and Scott Smith, president and chief operating officer of Hockey Canada, will join Oilers Entertainment Group to make the announcement Thursday at 10 a.m.

Red Deer hosted an international hockey event this summer with the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and was also host of the 2016 Memorial Cup.

The biggest international hockey tournament to come to Red Deer was the 1995 World Junior Hockey Championships.

More to come.
