Red Deer’s downtown will kick off the holiday season on Friday night with a free, family-friendly Frost Street Patio Party.

This is the first of a series of wintertime events that continue into next month and include a late-night shopping “Twinkle Tour” on Dec. 8, a musical Winter Market on Dec. 9, and other activities.

On Nov. 25, Spandy Andy’s latest dance moves will be on display and residents can also do some ice ornament decorating at the Frost Street Patio Party on the Ross Street Patio from 4 to 7 p.m.

Families can sip free hot chocolate while the kids help Anna And Elsa decorate ice ornaments. There will also be a craft station and some take-home activities to keep the fun going.

The Downtown Business Association has planned a series of other special holiday events leading up to Christmas.

These include a search for the Christmas Pickle in downtown shops with prizes to be won from Nov. 28 to Dec. 22, and a shop Window Scavenger Hunt from Dec. 6 to 20, (Get the list of search items from downtownreddeer.com for a chance to win a $200 prize).

The Twinkle Tour and Late Night Shopping experience will happen along on Ross Street between 49th and 50th Avenues on Dec. 8, when many businesses will stay open to 8 p.m. or later. Free hot chocolate will be served.

And the Dec. 9 Winter Market will run from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Millennium Centre, 4909-49th St. This indoor farmer’s market will offer special foods, including baked goods, local beers and wine, as well as handmade gifts, and a pop-up photo studio.

Live entertainment will be provided by Red Deer pianist Curtis Labelle and the Red Deer Community for Jazz musicians.
