Reading program

Four Chinook’s Edge students had an exciting night with the Calgary Flames as part of Reading . . . Give It a Shot. The eight-week program had students record the amount of time they read books, newspapers, magazines or information on the Internet and after every 100 minutes they received a bookmark featuring a Calgary Flames player. Chinook Center School student Brett Marshall, of Innisfail, Bowden Grandview School student Dyllon Ross, École Fox Run School student Nathan Bastien, of Sylvan Lake, and Delburne Centralized School student Cheyenne Widdecke were recognized as most-improved readers and they all received two Calgary Flames game tickets, dinner and a hockey jersey, which they used on April 6 in Calgary. The program is part of a new partnership between Chinook’s Edge School Division and the Calgary Educational Partnership Foundation. Nearly 2,500 students in the division took part in the program, which is to build lifelong skills and show that reading is fun and rewarding.
