Garden plots for the 2011 gardening season will be available on a first come basis starting this week at the Cemetery Services office. The City of Red Deer Recreation, Parks and Culture department is offering large plots (10 by 12 m) and medium sized plots (5 by 12 m or 6 by 10 m) in the following locations: Red Deer College Gardens, located west of Bethany Collegeside; Parkside Gardens, located off Nash Street behind 52 Avenue; and Piper Creek Gardens, located south of Delburne Road on 40 Avenue. The previous year’s gardeners will be given first opportunity to renew their registration. Remaining spaces will be available today from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Cemetery Services office located at Alto Reste Cemetery. The garden plots will be ready for planting on May 14, weather permitting, and the season ends October 10. Plots are available for a fee of $36 per large plot and $22 per medium plot. Payment is by cheque or money order only and must be made at the time of application. For further information, please call Parks Amenities at 403-342-8303.
Memories Gala success
The Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories is thanking Red Deer once again for making their Sweet Memories Gala a hit. “We are pleased with the results and are already excited about plans for next year,” said Donna Durand, regional manager with the Alzheimer Society. The gala and a silent auction on March 26 donated $27,000 to the cause, which provides individual care and planning consultations as well as public education and support programs for families dealing with Alzheimer’s disease.
