Lewis to visit
World renowned humanitarian Stephen Lewis will be the keynote speaker at the Red Deer Citizen of the Year Spring Gala. Lewis, former UN Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa and Canadian ambassador to the UN, will talk about volunteerism and community leadership. The annual event presented by the Rotary Clubs of Red Deer will be held on April 30 at the Memorial Centre. Children's fundraiser
Blarney Stone South has changed the date of its ninth annual Dreams Take Flight fundraiser. The event will now be held on Thursday at Blarney Stone South. Cocktails start at 6 p.m., dinner is at 7 p.m. and the auction begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $50 per plate or $450 for a table of 10. All dinner and auction proceeds will be donated to Dreams Take Flight. The charity takes children with physical, mental and social disabilities on a trip of a lifetime to a Disney theme park. Self-help book
Innisfail-area author Joanne Johnson will launch her first self-published book Soul’s Journey on Saturday at Vitality Crystals and Fountains near Bowden. Soul’s Journey is a fictional self-help book that follows the adventures of a woman on a quest for spiritual growth. Johnson, a spiritual consultant, hopes her book will help people in their own spiritual awakening. The book signing at Crystals and Fountains, located four minutes west of Bowden on Hwy 587, will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The book is available online at www.authorhouse.com and soon at Chapters.
