Mr. Mikes raises funds
The Red Deer Mr. Mikes restaurant is hoping to raise money for Ronald McDonald House of Central Alberta one Mikeburger at a time. Until Aug. 31, a total of $1 from the sale of every Mikeburger is being donated to charity as part of the chain’s 50th anniversary celebrations. To date, the Red Deer location has raised $1,039 for Ronald McDonald House of Central Alberta. The restaurant that raises the most will get its donations matched to a maximum of $5,000 from Mr. Mikes corporate office. The chain of 18 restaurants in Western Canada has raised $33,000 for local charities and is hoping to raise $50,000 by Aug. 31. The Red Deer Mr. Mikes marks its fourth anniversary in September. The chain of restaurants originated in Vancouver 50 years ago.
Best dressed business
A Red Deer employment agency has earned $1,000 for having the best decorated business during this year’s Westerner Days fair and exhibition. Employment Placement Support Services received the cheque from representatives of the Wallah Group, which provided funding for the prize. EPSS won the grand prize as well as the category for business with more than 25 employees in the annual competition, for their creation of the Village of EPSSville. People who want to learn more about debit card fraud can attend an event on Thursday hosted by the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce. The presentation by RCMP and Bank of Canada representatives will be at the Chamber office from 10 a.m. to noon. The address is 3017 50th Ave. The event is free but preregistration is required.
