Olds College fundraiser
A centre that connects Olds College students with organizations that need their help hopes to raise $5,000 to keep the centre going. Members of the public are invited to join the Olds College Students’ Association HELP Centre at the Bell e-Learning Centre, at 10:30 a.m. today, to take part in the centre’s opening and start of its fundraising campaign. HELP stands for hands, elevating, leading and providing. The Help Centre works with community organizations to recruit student volunteers to fill their volunteer needs. Last year, the centre placed 132 students in 22 not-for-profit organizations in the community, helping with things such as Haiti fundraising, by selling daffodils for cancer awareness and Christmas angels. This year, the centre has a $5,000 shortfall and centre staff are asking the community for donations. The total operating budget for the HELP Centre is $15,000, with $10,000 coming from the Olds College Students’ Association.
