The Canadian Red Cross in Red Deer is moving. The branch office will be relocated on Sept. 1 to No. 105, 5301 43rd St., the same building as the Vat lounge.

The Canadian Red Cross in Red Deer is moving. The branch office will be relocated on Sept. 1 to No. 105, 5301 43rd St., the same building as the Vat lounge. The main switchboard will remain the same at 403-346-1241. The office hours will continue to be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Red Cross offers health equipment loans, disaster management services as well as education support around violence and abuse prevention.

Blackfoot culture

Get a taste of Blackfoot culture at the Bastions and Bones event this month at the Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site. On Aug. 20, 21 and 22, guest drummers, dancers and ceremonialists from the Piikani Nation will hold sharing circles and mini powwows at the site of two former fur trading forts. Sharing circles will be held on Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m., while a mini-powwow will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. As well, the award-winning, family-friendly Imagin-a-Nation theatrical presentation will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to celebrate 125 years of National Parks in Canada. Other weekend events at the National Historic Site include a $5-a-plate pancake breakfast on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m., interactive activities and guided walks with Park Canada interpreters on Saturday and Sunday as well as the David Thompson Puppet Show. Special demonstrations focusing on culture and history at the Metis Trappers’ Tent, and a harvest barbecue on Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. For more information, call 403-845-6680 or email rocky.friends@pc.gc.ca
