Garden Show on Thursday
Those looking for a little floral inspiration can check out the sights and scents at the Red Deer District Annual Flower and Garden Show on Thursday. The show takes place at the Golden Circle and runs from 1:30 to 6 p.m. There is no charge for exhibitors and the public can also check out local gardener’s handiwork. Entries will be judged from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and prizes will be handed out at 6:30 p.m. For more information, go to www.rdgc.ca
Watch meteor shower
The stars will be out, and hopefully a few meteors will come by too, at the Perseids Meteor Show Star Party at Fort Normandeau on Thursday. The event to check out one of the best meteor shows the skies have to offer runs from 10 p.m. – 3 a.m. Activities and refreshments will be provided. A drop-in donation of $3 per person or $10 per family is suggested and can be paid at the gate. Overnight tenting is an option. For information, call 403-346-2010 or 403-347-7550.
Documentary on cultural diversity
People who want to see a film about young people growing up in culturally diverse backgrounds can watch Growing Up Among Strangers at the HUB on Tuesday. The film sheds light on the difficulties and benefits of living in two cultures and the importance of remaining true to one’s self. The 25-minute film will be shown at 1 p.m. followed by a discussion on empathy, helping individuals to overcome difficulties, and fostering an inclusive community. Refreshments will be provided.
