The Alix community indoor nativity display will be open for three days at the Alix Evangelical Free Church, located at 4619 Lake St. There’s already a large collection of personal nativity scenes, and anyone who wants to lend a scene to the display can call June at 403-747-2455 or Sheila at 403-747-0003. This display runs Thursday and Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Alix is about 50 km northeast of Red Deer.
Olds College Online Auction is up and running to raise money for college projects and operation as well as promote the college’s programs and students. The year-round auction at oldscollege.maestroweb.com went live on Dec. 1 and items will be online for two to three weeks for bidding. The first auction closes Dec. 15. A variety of donations are welcome including antiques, appliances, automotive, children’s toys, sporting goods, event tickets, gift certificates, hardware, home supplies, jewelry, landscaping, electronics, entertainment, farm supplies, food and cooking, framed prints, collectibles, furniture, services, and monetary donation by a company or business. A story on 2011 Red Deer homicides in the Advocate on Nov. 30 gave incorrect information. Jenna Cartwright, 21, was reported missing by family on April 12 and was last seen in Red Deer on March 29. Her body was found on May 3 in a ditch in May near Olds. As well, information on how William McDonald, 40, died on Jan. 20 was incorrect. He was choked during a fight inside a home in the Fairview neighbourhood.
