Virtual trek around Hawaii
Take a virtual trek around Hawaii in the new year. The Red Deer Primary Care Network will start its annual Hawaiian Island Trek on Jan. 13 to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. Registration is now open and you can sign up as an individual or as part of a group. Up to 1,000 people have participated in the trek in previous years and the PCN would like to see 2,000 participants log their activities and steps this year. Workshop for non-profit goups on writing proposals
Non-profit organizations interested in attracting extra funding are invited to a workshop on writing proposals to attract sponsors on Feb. 11. The Red Deer Arts Council is hosting the half-day workshop with sponsorship consultant Brent Barootes, who will explain how to create a winning proposal. The workshop begins at 9 a.m., costs $40, and will take place at the Dawe Centre. To register or for more information, call the arts council office at 403-348-2787.
Occupy movement taking break
Occupy Red Deer will take a break until 2012 as the next two Sundays are Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. The movement will return to City Hall Park on Jan. 8 from noon to 4 p.m. Protesters sometimes go to the second floor of the Red Deer Public Library to warm up. Upcoming themes include homelessness and affordable housing, public health, a sharing and responsible economy, and more.
