It’s time to try one of winter’s oldest footwear. Families are invited to participate in Family Snowshoe Day on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Red Deer’s Kerry Wood Nature Centre. An obstacle course and other snowshoe challenges will be on hand, weather permitting. Snowshoeing likely originated in Central Europe 4,000 to 6,000 years ago. Event admission is $3 per person or $10 a family. Call 403-346-2010 for more information.
Song, dance at the library
Song and dance will erupt from the children’s wing of the Red Deer Public Library’s downtown branch on the afternoon of Saturday. Central Alberta Refugee Effort’s CARE club has joined with the library for an international children’s Christmas festival, running from 2 to 4 p.m. Families are invited to join the Festival of Lights Celebration, which will include traditional music, snacks and festivities from all over the globe, including India, Russia, Mexico, England and Sweden.
