Washer rebate to end

The $100 Energy Stars clothes washer rebate offered to Albertans through the provincial energy efficiency consumer rebate program will end on March 31. Albertans who purchase an eligible clothes washer on or before the March 31 deadline must submit an application to Climate Change Central by June 30. For more details about the program or to apply for a rebate, contact Climate Change Central online at www.ClimateChangeCentral.com or call 1-888-537-7202. In April 2009, the province committed to help Albertan reduce their greenhouse gas emissions through the three-year rebate program. As energy-efficient clothes washers are now the industry norm, funds originally reserved for this rebate will become available for other rebates within the provincial program.

Fiddle time

East Coast fiddling sensation Gordon Stobbe will play some toe-tapping tunes Friday, March 4 in Red Deer. Tickets to Stobbe’s 7 p.m. concert at The Hub on Ross Street are $10 at the door. The acclaimed fiddler, who’s in the city to teach a fiddling workshop at Red Deer College, will also be attending a fundraising dinner and dance on March 5 at the First Christian Reformed Church. Half the proceeds from the event will go towards A Better World’s project to build a classroom for girls and boys in Afghanistan, and the other half will go toward the church’s youth group. While the concert is free, tickets need to be reserved by calling 403-347-9402. Donations will be accepted, with tax receipts issued for contributions of $20 or more.
