Dance break
Lunch time needn’t be a grim ham-and-cheese affair. The Hub is hosting a Lunch Hour Downtown Dance Break on Tuesdays from Jan. 26 to March 16. The beginner class teaches hip-hop and jazz steps suitable for adults of all abilities. The first eight persons with developmental disabilities can register for free, although the class is open to everyone. The class runs 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. at 4936 Ross St. Register online for course No. 41252 at www.reddeer.ca/looknbook or in person at the Recreation Centre, Collicutt Centre or Michener Aquatics Centre.
Preschool program
Parents who want their kids to get into nature are asked to look no further than the Kerry Wood Nature Centre’s preschool program. The open house for Nature Nursery — designed to introduce preschoolers to Central Alberta’s plants, animals and natural habitats — is scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. at the Nature Centre. A Waskasoo Park Interpretive Program notice described the preschool program as “unique, fun and educational,” and parents can meet the teachers, tour the facility, check out some of the activities and get information about the program at the open house. Call 403-346-2010 for more information.
Bowl for Kids campaign
Strike, spare or gutter ball, every round played at the Bowl For Kids Campaign will a successful one. The event on March 7 will raise money for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Red Deer, so they can take one step closer to finding adult mentors for the more than 50 area children waiting for them. There’s a six-week campaign in the run-up to the event in which teams are encouraged to register and raise pledges. “Servus (Credit Union) is proud once again to be the lead sponsor for this worthwhile cause, and challenges other businesses in the community to get involved. It’s a great opportunity for your business and staff to have some fun, and contribute in support of kids,” Rob Stryker, campaign chairman, said in a news release.
