Singles invited to mingle
Hammer-swinging singles are being invited to mingle in truly physical fashion for Valentine’s Day. Habitat For Humanity’s Red Deer chapter is looking for 20 single adults to help with the work on a new house in South Red Deer on Saturday, Feb. 13. Then, on Valentine’s Day, those who worked on the home get complimentary admission to the Second Shot at Love banquet in support of the organization’s Red Deer chapter, says Ashley Davis, administrative and volunteer co-ordinator. While Habitat is not formally involved in matchmaking, the build and banquet will offer people a great way to mingle with other singles while supporting a good cause, says Davis. The group is awaiting development permits for two new builds this year. Addresses for the sites are not yet available. Tickets for the banquet are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, set for the Elks Lodge, 5121 50th Ave., from 7 to 11 p.m. To buy tickets or learn more, call 403-309-0998.
Archives open to public
Despite the construction, people can still access the Red Deer and District Archives, says heritage and archives co-ordinator Janet Pennington. Renovations are underway but people are welcome again to enter the building. It’s open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Access is available through the south side door, Pennington, said. For more information, phone 403-309-8403.
