Danish pancakes

These little pancakes don’t look like traditional flapjacks. This Sunday, the Danish Canadian National Museum and Gardens in Dickson is serving all-you-can-eat æbleskivers — that’s Danish for apple slices — for Æbleskiver n’ Jam Day. Prepared in a specially-designed pan, the cakes are round like tennis balls and solid as pancakes, but light and fluffy like popovers. They’re on sale from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. for $4 per person. Admission to the museum is a non-perishable item for the food bank. Please visit www.danishcanadians.com or call 403-728-0019 to learn more.

Shoot-out

Dragsters are lighting them up again on Main Street, Rimbey on Saturday. Practice runs for the 100-foot drag race are at 11 a.m. with races at 1 p.m. Just in case you need to get a break from screaming engines and screeching tires, the shoot-out is wrapped in a whole weekend of family fun, including a Show and Shine starting at 11 a.m. Sunday and Art in the Park and Farmers’ Market on both days. Admission to the drags is $10 for adults, $5 for youths and free for children eight and under. Excluding the drags, events are all set for Pas-Ka-Poo Park. Please visit www.caraceways.ca to learn more.

Correction

A story published on Tuesday about 13-year-old Red Deer teenager Jeffrey Chanminaraj, who was killed in a motor vehicle collision on Canada Day, contained an error. Stephanie Chanminaraj said it was her brother Jamie, 18, who did not want to attend the fireworks.
