Dozens of motorcyclists are expected to gather at Gasoline Alley on Saturday for a rural ride to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer. The scenic three-hour ride gets underway at 9:30 a.m. before proceeding to Sylvan Lake, Bentley, Leslieville, Strachan, Caroline, Olds and Didsbury. The rural Motorcycle Ride for Dad is in its third year. The ride is one of more than two dozen rides being held across the country in May and June. The local ride will include a poker run, with participants picking up poker cards at designated spots along the way. Members of the congregation at Gaetz United Church say goodbye to two of their ministers this weekend. A farewell lunch and program have been set for Sunday to honour Rev. Fran Hare and Rev. Brenda Kersell. Hare is retiring after a 35-year ministry while Kersell is moving on to a new ministry. The farewell will take place following worship services, which begin at 10:30 a.m. Gaetz United Church is located in Red Deer on the corner of Ross Street and 48th Avenue.
Celebrate National Aboriginal Day with food and live entertainment on Saturday. Red Deer’s Heritage Square, located next to the Recreation Centre and Red Deer Museum, will host the event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Opening ceremonies will kick off the activities, which include craft tables and drumming.
