CARSTAR Red Deer will attempt to break a Guinness World Record in a national fundraiser supporting Cystic Fibrosis Canada. Red Deer will join over 80 other CARSTAR locations across Canada for the eighth annual Soaps It Up car wash on Saturday. Proceeds raised locally will directly benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Canada Central Alberta chapter. In 2009, Canadian and American CARSTAR Collision Centres set the record for the largest car wash in North America as more than 4,100 vehicles were cleaned. This year, the company is aiming to wash more than 5,000 vehicles to set a brand new Guinness World Record. Car wash tickets are $5 and can be purchased at CARSTAR Red Deer or by visiting www.carstar.ca/soapitup. Participants are entered to win one of 100 prizes.The fundraising car wash will take place at 4517 54th Ave. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. CARSTAR Collision Repair Centres have raised more than $1.8 million to help fun research and treatment in the fight against cystic fibrosis.

Flower arrangement

Flower arrangement will be discussed a the next Red Deer and District Garden Club meeting on June 16. Bev Swanson will lead the workshop and participants are asked to bring their own flowers and container. Scissors and floral arranging implements are also recommended. Green floral foam will be provided by the garden club. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre. Other upcoming garden club activities include a barbecue at Bower Community Centre on July 24 at 3 p.m. and the Flower and Garden Show at the Golden Circle on Aug. 18.
