Gardeners short of space for their own plots have until April 1 to join the program at Spruce Lane Organics. Land owner Edith Schaeffer offers people the option of sharing in her community garden or renting a plot of their own. Rent is $30 for the season, with Schaeffer supplying the seeds and tools. Planting starts on the first Wednesday in May. The property is located along Hwy 2A, between Blackfalds and Lacombe. To sign up or learn more, call 403-885-4666.


Sports banquet

Tickets for the 2010 Red Deer Community Sport Awards and Banquet, presented by Servus Credit Union, are available at the Collicutt Centre and Recreation Centre. Tickets cost $25 each for the event, which will take place on Thursday, April 29, at the Capri Hotel and Convention Centre in Red Deer. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner begins at 7 p.m. The awards honour those individuals and groups who excel in their sport and also those who volunteer their time and effort to better the community. The public is also reminded to nominate a coach, official, volunteer, athlete or business supporter to be recognized at the event. Nomination forms are available on the City of Red Deer website at www.reddeer.ca, and the application deadline is Monday.
