Franklin the turtle is coming to entertain children in Red Deer on Tuesday, April 13. The live musical production, Franklin and the Adventures of the Noble Knights, will hold a show at the Memorial Centre. Composer/lyricist Florence Kohiarty wrote the music for the show produced by Koba Entertainment. “Writing music for the Franklin show was a pure delight!,” said Kohiarty in a news release. “My daughter was about two years old when we started recording and I was actually testing the music on her. Most of the time she would start clapping and dancing, which was a good sign.” Created more than 25 years ago, Franklin the turtle is enjoyed in more than 50 countries and 30 languages. Harmonizers spring show
Barbershop quartets, chorus groups and a choir will join in concert for the Wild Rose Harmonizers’ spring show, Harmony Explosion 2010, in Red Deer on Friday, April 16. Wild Rose will bring its own chorus and two of its quartets with guests, including the H.J. Cody High School Choir from Sylvan Lake, and Collage, a mixed a capella group from Calgary. Tickets are $20 per person, with a share of the proceeds to be donated to the Ronald McDonald House project now underway in Red Deer. City budget
open house
Red Deer residents can seek changes for snow clearing and policing levels in next year’s municipal budget. The public can offer input during the City of Red Deer’s Budget Open House on Wednesday, April 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Westerner Park’s Harvest Centre. The Westerner may charge $3 during that time to park. The public comments will help the city as it forges ahead with the 2011 budget, one that will come under a newly elected council this fall. This is the second year that residents have been invited to comment on the outset of the budget process.
